What is a round robin bracket?
A round robin bracket is a visual presentation of an all-play-all tournament: every team in the bracket faces every other team exactly once, and the matchups are arranged round by round instead of as an elimination tree.
The word "bracket" makes people picture the single-elimination tree: winners advance, losers go home, one champion emerges from the final. A round robin bracket works differently. Nothing gets crossed out, because nobody is eliminated — each round simply lists the next set of pairings until every possible matchup has been played.
That difference is the entire appeal. A round robin bracket guarantees every team the same number of games against the same field, which makes it the fair choice for group stages, rankings and events where playing matters as much as winning. It is the format FIFA uses for World Cup groups and most leagues use for their regular season.

Round robin bracket vs elimination bracket
An elimination bracket answers one question fast: who is champion? With n teams it needs just n − 1 matches, but it eliminates half the field after the first round. Pairings depend on the draw and seeding, so a brutal opener can end a strong team’s tournament immediately.
A round robin bracket answers a broader question: how good is each team, really? It needs n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 matches — 6 matches for 4 teams, 28 for 8 — and in exchange produces a complete ranking in which every team played every other. There is no lucky path and no dead rubber drawn by chance.
Because a round robin has no winners advancing, there is no tree structure and no empty half of the draw as rounds go by. Every round stays full (one bye per round with odd counts), which is why the round-by-round list — not the tree — is the honest way to draw this format.
Reading and running your bracket
Run it one round at a time: announce the pairings, play all matches of the round (in parallel if you have several courts), record results, then move to the next round. After the final round, tally wins across all matchups to produce the standings.
With an odd number of teams, each round shows one team with a bye. The bye rotates through the bracket so every team rests exactly once — check the "Bye" marker rather than assuming a missing pairing is an error.

Combining a round robin bracket with knockouts
The most common tournament design stitches the two formats together: round robin groups first, then a knockout bracket seeded from the group standings. The group stage guarantees everyone several games; the knockout stage delivers a grand final with real drama.
To build it with this tool, generate one bracket per group, run the groups, then seed a separate elimination round with the top finishers. The generated output — clean rounds with every matchup — is exactly the artifact referees and captains need for the group phase.
For the seeding itself, the group standings decide: group winners face runners-up from other groups, exactly as in professional tournaments. Your generated bracket stays the single source of truth for what was played.
