How it works

  1. 1

    Name your four teams

The page comes pre-set for exactly four teams — no count to choose. Replace Team 1 to Team 4 with your real club, player or group names, and generate.

  2. 2

    Generate the schedule

One click produces the complete 4 team round robin: 3 rounds of 2 matches, six pairings in total, with no team playing twice in a round.

  3. 3

    Use it anywhere

Print the schedule for the venue, copy it into your group chat, or export the six fixtures as CSV. Every team plays exactly three matches.

Who is this tool for?

Friendly cup finals night

Four teams and one evening is the classic setting: two matches run side by side, three rounds later every team has played everyone and a winner can be crowned.

Group stages of 4

Major tournaments build their group phase almost exclusively from four-team round robins: final matchdays can pit any two teams against each other with qualification still open.

Practice tournaments

Coaches love the four-team format for scrimmages — every squad gets three competitive repetitions against different opposition without any early exits.

Board game and esports groups

Four friends or four clans: the all-play-all format decides a fair champion over six total games, ideal for an evening of FIFA, chess or board games. With the double option the same group stretches to twelve games across six rounds.

The 4 team round robin format explained

A 4 team round robin schedules each of the four teams against the other three exactly once. That gives 4 × 3 ÷ 2 = 6 unique matchups, packed into 3 rounds of 2 matches each, with every team on court in every round.

Four is the smallest count that produces a "pure" round robin with no byes: every round, all four teams are on court, pitch or board simultaneously. That symmetry is why the format fits a single venue so well — two matches in parallel per round, three rounds in sequence, done.

The generator uses the circle method, so your schedule follows the classic order: Team 1 vs Team 4 and Team 2 vs Team 3 in round one, then the rotations through rounds two and three until every pairing — 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4 — has appeared exactly once.

The 4 team double round robin

Need home and away games, or simply more matches? Switch to double round robin before generating: the second leg repeats all six pairings with home and away swapped, producing 6 rounds and 12 matches. Every team then plays six matches — three as home, three as away — a miniature full league season.

How long does a 4 team round robin take?

With one court or table, six matches run strictly in sequence — at 20 minutes per match that is about two hours. With two courts you can play both matches of each round in parallel and finish in three round-times, roughly 60–75 minutes. That predictability makes the 4 team round robin the safest format to commit to a calendar.

05

Deciding a winner after three rounds

With only six matches, ties in the standings are common — two or even three teams can finish with identical wins. Decide the tie-break rules before you start. The usual order is head-to-head result first (who won when the tied teams met), then score difference across all matches, then total points scored, and finally a decisive extra matchup if time allows.

Because every team plays everyone, head-to-head comparisons are always available in a round robin — one of the quiet advantages of the all-play-all format over knockouts, where tied teams may never have met at all.

Want drama for a crowd? Use the round robin as a semi-final machine: after three rounds, let the first-placed team host a final against the second — a complete tournament evening with a proper climax.

06

Variations on the four-team schedule

If a team drops out, a three-team round robin needs only 3 matches (each team plays twice, one bye per round) — regenerate rather than reworking the printed sheet. If a fifth team joins, move up to the five-team format, which adds byes and one extra round.

Running several groups of four in a larger event? Generate one 4 team round robin per group, run all groups in parallel, then feed each group’s top finishers into knockout semi-finals — the structure used by countless real tournaments.
