Six-team leagues
Six is the standard small-league size: enough teams for a real table, few enough that a 6 team round robin season fits a single venue and calendar.

One click schedules all fifteen pairings into five rounds of three matches. Six is even, so there are no byes: every team plays in every round.
Need a full home-and-away season? The double round robin option for 6 teams produces 10 rounds and 30 matches with every pairing played twice.
Six is the standard small-league size: enough teams for a real table, few enough that a 6 team round robin season fits a single venue and calendar.
Two groups of six cover twelve teams while keeping every group to a tight five rounds — a common opening structure for weekend events.
Internal club championships from chess to curling run the 6 team round robin to crown a season champion with everyone playing everyone.
The 6 team double round robin — 10 rounds, 30 matches — is the classic weekly league: every matchday has three matches and the season runs ten clean weeks.
A 6 team round robin schedules each team against the other five exactly once: 6 × 5 ÷ 2 = 15 pairings, arranged in 5 rounds of 3 matches. Because six is even, all six teams play in every round and no byes are needed.
Those numbers make the six-team format remarkably practical. On three courts or pitches, a complete all-play-all event is just five sequential rounds — under two hours at 20 minutes per match. On a single court, fifteen matches spread comfortably across a day or a season.
The generator keeps the rounds balanced by construction: no team appears twice in a round, every pairing appears exactly once, and the order is deterministic — regenerate the same six names and you get the same schedule, round for round.
The double round robin is where six teams shine as a league size. Toggled on, the second leg repeats all fifteen pairings with home and away swapped: 10 rounds, 30 matches, and each team plays exactly ten matches — five at home, five away.
A 10-week weekly league is the natural fit: every weekend three matches, every team one game per matchday. That is the exact structure countless local football, hockey and volleyball leagues run every season.
With three courts, play each round as one wave: three matches in parallel, five waves total. With two courts, each round splits into two slots (one court doubles up), stretching the event to ten slots — still very manageable.
For a weekly league, assign one round per week (single) or one round per week across ten weeks (double). The bye question never arises with six teams, which keeps communication simple: everyone plays every round.
Match count in a round robin grows fast with team count: 4 teams → 6 matches, 6 → 15, 8 → 28, 10 → 45. Six teams sits where the format still feels compact (fifteen matches) but the competition is real — five different opponents each, a table that takes several rounds to settle.
Six also divides cleanly across venues: three matches per round means two or three courts eliminate waiting almost entirely. The step up to eight teams nearly doubles the matches; stepping down to four halves them but halves the variety too.
And in the double format, six teams is the largest count that keeps a home-and-away season inside ten rounds — the psychological barrier where weekly leagues start feeling long.
Publish the schedule before the first match — the print sheet carries the team names, the summary line (6 teams, 5 rounds, 15 matches) and every round in order. Captains can then plan arrivals around their own fixtures.
Track results round by round on the printed sheet or in the CSV export by adding a score column. After round five, the table ranks itself: wins first, then head-to-head, then difference — agree on the order beforehand.
If a late withdrawal leaves you with five teams, switch to the 5 team round robin page rather than patching: the regenerated schedule brings the bye structure back into balance automatically.
