RRRound Robin Generator Editorial Team
This is a complete generated single round robin for the teams above — exactly what the generator produces in one click.
The generator comes fixed at five participants. Give Team 1 through Team 5 their real names — clubs, players, classrooms, whatever your event runs on.
Because five is odd, each round one team has a bye. The 5 team round robin engine schedules that bye so every team rests exactly once across the five rounds.
You get five rounds of two matches — ten fixtures in total, each clearly marked with who plays and who rests. Print it, copy it or export it as CSV.

A fifth team joining a planned group of four changes the math: byes enter, rounds grow to five. Regenerating the schedule keeps the format fair instead of improvising rest rules on the day.
Ten matches fit comfortably into recurring sessions — one round per day for a week gives every team two matches and one rest day, a rhythm offices and schools love.
The bye team can staff the scoreboard, referee or refreshments. Because the bye rotates through all five teams, the workload shares out exactly as fairly as the play.
With 5 teams, a round robin needs every team to face the other four exactly once: 5 × 4 ÷ 2 = 10 matchups. Since five is odd, the rounds cannot all be full — and that is where byes come in.
The 5 team round robin runs over 5 rounds. Each round contains two matches and one bye: four teams play while the fifth rests. Over the five rounds, every team rests exactly once, so the burden of the bye is shared perfectly — no team is unfairly benched twice while another never rests.
This structure follows automatically from the circle method with a bye slot: the resting position rotates around the circle with the teams. The generator simply labels it clearly — "Bears — Bye" — so players, referees and spectators can read who is idle in every round.
A bye is not dead time. Use the resting team to keep score, officiate, or set up the next round. In youth tournaments the bye team often runs the scoreboard — participants stay involved even when not playing.
If equal rest matters for performance, note that byes are spread one per round, so no team ever rests twice in a row and no team plays more than three consecutive matches. That balance is built into the generated order — you should never need to shuffle rounds by hand.
Switch to double round robin for a full home-and-away season: all ten pairings repeat with home and away reversed, giving 10 rounds, 20 matches and two byes per team. Five teams is a popular league size precisely because the double format fits a tidy ten-week calendar with each team playing weekly.
A generated schedule for Falcons, Wolves, Bears, Eagles and Stags starts with two matches — say Falcons vs Stags and Wolves vs Eagles — while Bears take the round-one bye. Round two rotates the pairings and the bye moves on. By round five, every one of the ten pairings has appeared and every team has rested exactly once.
The summary at the top of the result keeps you oriented: 5 teams, 5 rounds, 10 matches, 1 bye per round. If those numbers look different after you regenerate, a name was probably duplicated — the generator warns when two participants share a name.
Planning a venue? Five rounds of two matches each means with a single court you schedule ten consecutive matches; with two courts each round is one time slot, and the whole 5 team round robin finishes in five slots.
For five teams the alternatives are weak. A knockout needs byes anyway (three teams would sit out the first round — far worse than one per round), and a Swiss system needs more rounds to separate the field than the five a round robin uses. The 5 team round robin is simply the complete, fair answer: every pairing played, every result meaningful.
Compared with the 4 team round robin, going from four to five teams adds byes and two extra rounds but keeps match count modest at ten. Compared with six teams, you save a round and five matches. That middle position makes five one of the most practical sizes for a single-day, single-venue event.
